While Men’s Health Month brings awareness to men’s physical health, it also highlights the importance of men and mental health care. Mental health is just as important as physical health because if mental health issues go untreated, they could lead to other problems, such as drug use.
At New Hope Ranch, we are using Men’s Health Month as an opportunity to shine a light on the facts about men’s mental health.
- Men are 3.5 times more likely to die by suicide. (1)
- In 2021, 69% of drug-involved overdose death in the U.S. were male. (1)
- Male veterans experience nearly twice the rate of alcohol and drug use as women. (2)
Despite these compelling statistics, the National Institute of Health (2) reports that men are significantly less likely than women to seek help for mental health difficulties.
Here’s the good news: men who seek professional medical attention for addiction are less prone to relapse. (3)
